Traditional Welsh child's costume, probably dating from the early 20th century. The underskirt/petticoat and jacket are of red woollen fabric with vertical black stripes, (typical of woollen cloth produced in Welsh woollen mills). The underskirt has a broad black cotton satin waistband with button fastening and a handstitched hem. The seams are machine stitched. The jacket is of long proportions with press stud closings down the front and internal bias binding. These are accessorised with matching black and white checked petticoat and shawl. The petticoat being cotton with taper ties, the shawl is triangular, finely woven wool, with a short fringe. The shawl has a small label with a red monogram that appears to read EH.
(Vendor states it has been handed down through the family from her great grandparents who lived in Felinfoel, Llanelli).
